Hello family and friends. Goodbye July. It’s hard to believe that we are already seven days into August. We are still in the 90’s, but very soon we’ll walk outside and feel the change of seasons in the air. Autumn is still seven weeks away on September 22nd but coming up quickly.
Can you believe that our students and teachers will be back to school on the 15th? Remember to pay special attention on the highways. Watch your speed. In addition to more traffic getting to and from school, those yellow school buses will be running up and down our streets picking up children for school. Our summer schedule is about to change, up earlier and to bed earlier, homework, better preparation and better organization, patience and Christian character. May God bless us as we make the changes we need to make! We can do this together.
Our sermon series “Walking in the Way of the Old Rugged Cross” continued Sunday with a lesson on the final “S” in CROSS – SUCCESSES. We took a close look at Psalm 23 to note all the wonderful blessings we have when the Lord is our Shepherd. I have needs. God provides. Sometimes I get down. God lifts me up. I don’t always know which way to go. God leads me in the right direction. Sometimes I’m afraid of what the future holds. I should never be afraid. God’s promises are secure. “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” We are rich with too many successes to count when we wholly follow our Shepherd, Jesus Christ the Lord.
On the evening at 4:30 we always have a special period of singing and then at 5:00 we studied about our Father’s awesome OMNISCIENCE, His infinite awareness, understanding, and insight within and without all things. God is our God; your’s and mine. He is our Father; your’s and mine. God knows us. Job said to God in Job 42:2, “I know that You can do everything, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.”
It is not too soon to MARK YOUR CALENDAR for our upcoming CONWAY COUNTY LADIES’ DAY, scheduled for SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH. Also, while we are scheduling, our CONWAY COUNTY GOSPEL MEETING will be Sunday evening through Wednesday evening, OCTOBER 9-12. This year the Downtown congregation will host. There will be a different speaker each evening at 7:00 p.m. on our theme: PREPARING FOR ETERNITY. My grandpa Burleson always said, “Son, plan to live and at the same time, prepare to die.” I am following his instructions. Of course, God instructed us to do this long ago in James 4:13-17. We often think of all the things we will do tomorrow. And it is perfectly fine to plan. At the same time, though we may not have tomorrow. James said regarding life; “It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and vanishes away.” He wrote, “Instead we ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.’” We’re planning and at the same time preparing for eternity.
