Good morning, Christian brothers and sisters, family, and friends. I hope you have had a safe and happy Independence Day celebration with your family and friends. Cindi and I were out of town over the weekend visiting our daughter and family in Virginia. Our granddaughter celebrated her “Sweet 16” birthday we were so happy to celebrate the weekend with her. Thank you for the time away, for your support, and your prayers for us. Let me say “THANK YOU” to Marion and Rosetta Chenault for hosting our annual Independence Day get-together and also to Geoffrey Bane and his crew of young men who took care of all the fireworks for us on Saturday night last. Even though I was out of town, I hear and see from social media that everything went well. There were 56 who came out to enjoy the festivities.

Something to think about: As we meet around the Lord’s Supper table let us not forget Gethsemane. There were four companies of people there: the Lord ALONE – Praying, the 3 Disciples – Sleeping, the other 8 Disciples – Waiting, the murderous mob – Approaching. Note that the further from Jesus, the greater in number was the crowd. Is it not the same today?
Maybe that’s the reason! One day two wives sat mending their husbands’ pants. One of them said to the other, “My John, poor man, is so discouraged in his work in the church. He said the other day that he was even considering resigning. It seems that nothing goes right with him and the church.” The other replied, “Why, my husband was saying just the opposite, he is so enthusiastic! It seems like the Lord is closer to him than ever before.” A hushed silence fell as they continued to mend the trousers. You see, one was patching the knees and the other the seat.
Thoughts on Jesus: Because Jesus left heaven to come to a sinful world, we can leave a sinful world and one day go to heaven. Because Jesus learned obedience as a Son, we can by obedience become a son. Because Jesus wore a crown of thorns, we can wear a crown of glory.
Let us keep pulling together: In our love for God (Matthew 22:37), in prayer (I Thessalonians 5:17), in our study of the Bible (II Timothy 2:15), in our giving (Luke 6:38), in our love for others (John 13:34-35), in our attendance (Hebrews 10:23-25). Let us remember that the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing every day.
