Welcome. Yesterday was a great day; sunshine…summer weather and summer activities…too many rich blessings to count…a day of worship, Bible study, and Christian fellowship on the Lord’s Day and well…yesterday is gone. Tomorrow holds many opportunities and challenges. Tomorrow we have plans to go here or there, do this or that. But you know what? Tomorrow may never be. Today, only today is ours to count our blessings, to take advantage of opportunities and face challenges, to carry through on our plans, to go here and there and do this and that. What shall we do with our “today?” Live every moment of “today” to its fullest, for God. That’s my plan because “For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.”
Our sermon series “I died last night” continued yesterday with lesson #3. If you and I had died last night just what would we ask ourselves the very moment we opened our eyes on the other side of death? I’m thinking the first thing we would ask is “Did I obey the gospel of Jesus Christ?” Our happiness in this life and our eternal destiny is dependent on that decision. Have you obeyed the gospel? Do you love God? Then why wait another moment. You believe in Jesus, repent, confess, and be baptized. You’ll be so glad you did. We might ask “Was I faithful to my Lord Jesus Christ in my life?” Again, our faithfulness to Jesus’ teaching and His example will take us all the way to heaven. If we fail in our faithfulness to Jesus, all hope is lost. What does God tell us in Revelation 2:10 about being faithful until death? The third question we might ask is this: Did I try to win a soul to Christ Jesus? What was Jesus’ mission in the world? He revealed His mission in Luke 19:10, “For the Son of man has come to seek and save that which was lost.” What about us? Are we fulfilling our mission in the world to try to bring someone who is lost to salvation in Christ Jesus? The way may be narrow and difficult, but we are to keep on keeping on. Intending just will not do. What will do? Doing!
Last evening we completed our sermon series “The Secret to Happiness.” Step #1 – Stop Worrying. Step #2 – Start Praying. Step #3 – Think Positive. And finally, Step #4 Live a Godly Life. What you have learned, do. What you have received, do. What you have heard, do. What you have seen, do. Jesus finished His Sermon on the Mountain preaching on the difference between the one who hears and does and the one who hears and does not. I want to hear and do so when trouble comes (And it has, does, and will) I will not fall because my life is founded on the Rock. How about you?
