March 21, 2019 – The Christian life – Are you living it? The Christian life is an everyday thing, not just a one day a week event or a holiday happening. Do the people around you know that you are a Christian? We don’t have to wear a badge that says, “I’m a Christian” for them to know. They can see it in the way we think, speak, and live. Life is tough. Sometimes we let God down and we let ourselves down. Don’t be dismayed. God’s love is abundant and abounding in Christ Jesus. He is patient. He is kind. And His grace is the answer to our every need. If you have not yet obeyed the gospel of Christ, do that today. If you have been lax in your commitment to Christ, renew your commitment today. Don’t look back. Look ahead to the fantastic adventure called the Christian life.
On Sunday morning’s at Harding Street we are considering “A Scripture Text for Life – Proverbs 3:1-6.” Verses 1 and 2 says, “My son, do not forget My law, but let your heart keep My commands; for length of days and long life and peace they will add to you.” Eve was distracted and deceived. David was at the wrong place at the wrong time doing the wrong thing, and well, this man after God’s own heart fell as far as anyone can fall into sin. Simon Peter was afraid. He allowed his fear of what others might think, say, or do to blind him from God’s law. Today we will consider another one of Jesus’ disciples, Judas Iscariot. Judas saw and heard Jesus every day for 3 years. Jesus trusted him and tested him allowing him to hold the disciples money. It is so hard for me to fathom how someone so close to Jesus, one of His closest “friends” can betray Him and that with the kiss of friendship. What was Judas’ primary problem? Greed. We must not allow greed, the love of money and the things of the world to blind our eyes from God’s law.
I can “see” us, the church of Christ at Harding Street growing. ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD. We just need to keep trusting, praying, and working toward God’s promises, inviting and reminding our family, friends, and neighbors about the glorious Savior we love and the church that brings us so much happiness. Of course you and I both know that growth takes time. Think about it. What does a 16 year old need to do to be 21? Well, she needs to live 5 more years, one day at a time. Patience is required. Eventually she’ll make it to 21 and Lord willing beyond. Of course, after a few more years she’ll probably look back thinking, “What was I thinking?”
