Good morning! And welcome to Harding Street Church of Christ! We are so glad you can join us to worship our God in spirit and in truth. This past week we got a little hint of fall and some relief from the heat. It was nice to wake up and see highs in the 80s for three days in a row! I hope you all found time to get out and enjoy the world that God created while we had some more bearable weather. Today we have a guest speaker which many of you already know much about. Brother Ted Knight is joining us to preach, and to give us an update on the mission works in Romania. Ted and his wife Barbara were shining examples for Christians as I was growing up, showing the importance of living by God’s word and spreading that word to all the corners of the earth. I believe that Brother Knight has perfectly put in to practice the great commission, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all the things that I have commanded you;” Matthew 28:19-20. I hope you plan to stay after worship to hear from brother Knight about the great work being done in Romania.
During this last week while reading the Bible on my phone, one of the verses of the day caught my eye.The verse was Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” It made me think, what are we truly seeking first in our lives? Are we seeking worldly growth, trying to get that promotion, trying to make sure we go to a good school, trying to get a bigger house, trying to get a nicer car? Or are we truly seeking God first in our lives? Too often we worry about earthly things and put all our focus on those things which do not matter in the grand scheme of things. Mark 8 36, “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul.” We must work on ourselves to make sure we are not getting too focused on the fleeting things this world offers, but instead focus on what can save our soul to bring us to eternal life in the end. When all the things of this world that we work for fade away, there will only be two places left for us to go, eternal life or eternal death. If we focus on the world we will be condemned to eternal death, but if we focus on God and His righteousness, then we will gain eternal life.
If you read the rest of Matthew chapter 6, you will learn that if you seek God and put Him first in your life, He will provide for you. Let us all strive to put God first in our lives, and seek the path He has laid out for us, instead of following the path that the world tries to force onto us.
