Good morning! And welcome to Harding Street Church of Christ! We are so glad you joined us today to worship God in spirit and in truth. We just finished our Vacation Bible School, “What A Mess!” and boy was it a mess, but it was a good kind of mess. The kids enjoyed it and I think the adults enjoyed it almost as much as they did. Through our five lessons we learned messes, which was another word for sins, in our lives. We learned about where sin came from, how to address our sins, how to address others sins, and that Jesus loves to help us with our sins. We live in a very messy and sinful world, where many people want to stay in their messes. We have to be careful, because many times the world will want to pull us into their messes. A friend of mine once told me about pigs. Pigs will roll around in mud all day and be happy about it, and that pig will want you to get in the mud and roll around with it. Let’s be careful as we go through our lives to make sure that we are avoiding the messes of the world and working to keep ourselves clean and spotless before God.
This week we’re starting a new lesson series on Sunday mornings titled, “Our Christian Life and Growth.” The series will have four lessons, The Foundation of Our Faith, Walking in the Spirit, The Power of Prayer, and Faith in Action. We’re going to learn things from each of these lessons that will help us build and grow our faith. Things like understanding that Christ is the cornerstone of our faith and that we must walk in the spirit daily to cultivate the fruits of the spirit. We’ll also talk about how important prayer is in the life of a christian, and that we must demonstrate our faith in the way we live our daily lives. I hope you all will be able to join us for this lesson series so we can all grow our faith together.
As we look into the future, school is on the horizon. School can be a very stressful event in our lives, even when you think you’ve got it all figured out, you’re thrown into a new grade or a new campus. I’ve been through preschool, elementary school, intermediate school, middle school, junior high, high school, and now college. You’d think I would have this school thing all figured out, but now I will be starting at Harding University with new teachers, new advisors, and new computer programs to use and I am lost and stressed out about it. As those of us who are still in school begin this new school year, let’s remember to put our worries on Christ. Let’s remember the writings in Psalm 55:22, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.” When we feel stressed, lost, and confused let’s remember to look to God and cast our burden on Him.
