Hello. It is so good to be with the church on the Lord’s Day to enjoy the sights and sounds of Christian worship and fellowship. Oh, how beautiful is the sound of Christians singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to the Lord our God! Oh, what a privilege it is to remember Jesus our Savior in worship and fellowship. Cindi and I were out of town this past Sunday in Virginia, just outside Washington D.C. visiting our daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. It was good to get away for a few days.
Monday was Memorial Day. I hope you took time in the midst of the stormy weather to think about those who gave the greatest sacrifice that anyone can give to establish and maintain the freedoms we enjoy today. My dad and Cindi’s dad were in the Army. Both were able to serve and come home to their families. My son-in-law Daryl is a Marine. Today he is safe at home providing for my daughter and grandchildren. I am thankful. In a sense, every Sunday is Memorial Day for Christians because Jesus our Savior gave His life to set us free from sin. We are thankful.
The school year is complete. Our graduates have crossed the stage. Summer is almost here (20th). Now what? Do you have goals and plans? Goals and Plans for the day? For the summer? For your career? For your family? For retirement? For life? Do you have plans for death (You and I both know that death is a reality)? And more importantly, plans for eternity? Paul wrote in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Doing “all things” is impossible, if by “all things” he meant “I can do everything.” No one can do everything. The focus of this inspirational quotation from the Bible is on Christ who strengthens us and not on the “I” or on the “all things” that we might or might not be able or willing to do. Whatever my goals and plans may be, I can reach those goals and see my plans fulfilled when I focus on Christ Jesus. He is my strength.
We often sing hymn #276 in our books: “Jesus is all the world to me, my life, my joy, my all. He is my strength from day to day. Without Him I would fall. When I am sad, to Him I go. No other One can cheer me so. When I am sad, He makes me glad. He’s my friend.” Verse two speaks to Jesus’ provision for us. Then in verse three the song says, “Jesus is all the world to me, and true to Him I’ll be. O how could I this Friend deny, when He’s so true to me? Following Him I know I’m right. He watches over me day and night. Following Him, by day and night. He’s my friend.” Verse four says, “Jesus is all the world to me, I want no better friend. I trust Him now. I’ll trust Him when life’s fleeting days shall end. Beautiful life with such a Friend, beautiful life that has no end, eternal life, eternal joy, He’s my Friend.” He is. MB
