Hello family and friends. Welcome. We had a terrific day this past Sunday, the Lord’s Day. It is always a joy to take the opportunity to come together to worship in spirit and in truth. Thanksgiving in 10 weeks. Christmas in 14.
Last Monday…22 years ago…9/11/2001…These numbers…This day…I remember exactly where I was when 19 Islamic terrorists took our own planes and used them as weapons against us. And in just a few moments the world changed. We thought we were safe. Two planes hit the World Trade Center bringing both “twin towers” down and killing more than 3,000 people and 400 police officers, firefighters, and port authority agents and injuring more than 10,000 others. One hour later another plane hit our Pentagon killing 189 people. A fourth plane was also hijacked and crashed into a field in Pennsylvania killing all 45 people on board. Of course, this act of hate cannot register with our younger generation who didn’t experience it. Those of us who did experience this act of violence were reminded of the volatility of the world in which we live. We need to remember 9/11 to help us check our lives and how we live. We must not be afraid. We must be cautious. We must not be vengeful. We must be watchful. We must not let the world and worldly things and events keep us from living life to the fullest. We must live life to the fullest with our eyes open. We have an enemy, the devil who seeks to kill, to steal, and to destroy (JOHN 10:9-10). We have a Father God gives us the abundant life. In PSALM 23, we read about our Shepherd preparing a table before us in the presence of our enemies. This He does every day. We are thankful.
3rd Sunday Birthday/Anniversary Celebration – We do things a little differently on the 3rd Sunday each month. Worship is at 9:00. Bible Classes is at 10:00. Then we walk across the parking lot to the Annex Building to celebrate our monthly birthdays and anniversaries together with a potluck lunch. It is always wonderful to be together.
This sermon this past Sunday morning was entitled “Are you sowing the seed of the kingdom brother? – Are you living your life the way Jesus lived His life?” We looked in the Bible to EPHESIANS 4 and 2 PETER 1 for our God’s direction. After lunch we met back in the auditorium to note how some people think that you can go to heaven regardless of what you believe or even how you live your life as long as you are “good.” Is this what it takes to go to heaven: being good? Is this true? What did Jesus say? What do we find when we read the Bible? Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He and only He is the way to heaven.
