Hello. Welcome. July is slowly fading to August. Though we’ve had a few hot days lately, the past few days have been more reasonable. Can you believe that the 2023-2024 school year is only 3 weeks away? Wow! How quickly the summer is flying by! Enjoy these good summer days while you can.
Speaking of summer: Our VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is almost here scheduled for this week: July 30 – August 2 – Sunday morning (10:00 a.m.) through Wednesday (7:00 p.m. each evening). Our theme is “BREAKOUT.” We will be studying Jonah, David, Daniel, Jesus, and Peter from the Bible to show how these men broke out of the ordinary to become extraordinary to honor God. We will have classes for all ages including adults. Come and see for yourself that you too can be extraordinary.
Our Sunday morning sermon series “True Blessings from God” continued Sunday with the first answer to the question “What does it mean to fear the Lord and walk in His ways?” When we TAKE GOD SERIOUSLY, we are showing Him and the world that we respect Him and walk in His ways. When God asks us to love others, is He serious about this request? What about God’s command to be faithful? Is He serious? Jesus said in Luke 6:46 “But why do you call me Lord, Lord, and not do the things which I say?” When God asks us to trust and obey Him, is He serious? Of course, the answer to these questions and any question regarding God, HE IS ABSOLUTELY SERIOUS!
On the evening at 5:00 we focused on “JESUS IS VERIFIED.” John and others heard, saw, and handled Jesus. To verify something is to prove the truth of something by evidence or testimony. We took a short look at JOHN 20:19-31, 1 CORINTHIANS 15:1-9, 2 PETER 1:15-21, and 3:14-18 to show that Jesus is verified.
We only have one life to live! How are we living it? In the evening we close our eyes to sleep and then almost in an instant and we open our eyes to a new day. Yesterday is gone. Today is ours to live as we choose, and we must choose wisely. Tomorrow may or may not be ours to enjoy. My grandfather always said, “Son, plan to live and prepare to die.” I try to live by this rule. We have too little time to waste even a moment on things that are simply unimportant, regret, hesitation, worry, hate, fear, and such things. Only “a moment” ago, back in May we were talking about the summer and how much we wanted to feel the summer sun, warm temperatures, and have a few days off. Well, at 100 degrees, what are we saying now? You know. You’ve probably said it. James wrote about life in chapter 4, verse 14; “Life is even as a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” Let’s not wish our lives away. Instead, let us seize the day. MB
