Hello family and friends. Sunday is the Lord’s Day. I am always so happy to meet with my fellow Christian brothers and sisters for fellowship and to remember Jesus and honor Him in worship. Last week was a little different. We took the new bus every night to the Gospel Gathering hosted by all the churches of Christ in the Central Arkansas area at the Robinson and Center facilities. The theme was ONE IN CHRIST – The Cross of Jesus. What a blessing it was every night to hear about the glorious salvation we enjoy because Jesus suffered and died on the cruel cross of Calvary. We had a good number from Harding Street present every night out of the 700 Christians who were there. If you missed it…well, I’m sorry you did. We enjoyed a little slice of heaven on earth. The “gathering” is a true blessing from God to us and us to Him.
Our sermon this past Sunday morning was entitled, “TRUE BLESSINGS FROM GOD.” Drayke read Psalm 128 and I pointed out all the blessings that come to the person who “fears the Lord and walks in His ways.” Think about Noah. He was challenged to fear the Lord and walk in His ways. It took him 100 years to build the ark to save humanity and the animals. The Bible says, “Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did (Genesis 6:22). Abraham “feared the Lord and walked in His ways” and though it took until he was 100 years of age, God fulfilled His promise of true blessings in a son, Isaac. Moses received God’s instructions standing barefooted beside the burning bush. He “feared the Lord and walked in His ways” even though his mission to deliver Israel from Egypt to the Promised Land took 40 years. Joseph was challenged to “fear the Lord and walk in His ways.” He did and saved the world from famine even though he was sold into slavery, mistreated, imprisoned, and forgotten for 22 years. Esther was challenged to “fear the Lord and walk in His ways.” Even though she had to risk her own life for her people, the Lord blessed her with salvation for herself and her entire family and nation. I could go on and on from Hebrews 11, but I think you get the picture. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The more of God’s word we read, study, hear, reflect on, and obey the stronger our faith will be. Psalm 1 teaches us that when we delight in the law of the Lord and meditate on it day and night, we will prosper in all that we do. How about it? Hear, begin, continue, and receive.
On the evening we began a new series “Eyewitnesses of Eternal Life.” Our text is I John 1:1-4. The first lesson is JESUS IS REVEALED. The infinite (One without limits or bounds or time) became finite (One with limits and bounds and time) for us. God REVEALED Himself to the world in Jesus to John and others in that time. John writes to us today that even though you and I did not see or hear or touch Jesus, that we can trust those who did. This Sunday (23rd) we will focus on Jesus Verified. I hope we all can understand. MB
