Good morning to you today. Welcome. I hope you had a Happy Mother’s Day! Speaking of mothers; CONGRATULATIONS to Will and Jayden Anderson on the birth of their son, Boone on Wednesday, May 10. He is precious. Pray for them as they learn to be parents.
Our mothers teach us many things. I’ll name a few. Maybe you can remember a few lessons you learned from your mother too.
Moms teach the meaning of anticipation – Just wait until your daddy gets home.
She teaches us about giving and receiving – “You’re going to get it when we get home.”
She teaches logic – “If you fall and break your neck, you’re not going with me to the store.”
We learn medical science – “If you keep crossing your eyes, they’re going to freeze that way.”
She teaches us to pray – “You had better pray that this comes out of the carpet.”
She teaches us humor – “When the lawn mower cuts off your foot, don’t come running to me.”
She teaches about adulthood – “If you don’t eat your vegetables, you won’t grow up.”
She teaches genetics – “You’re just like your father.”
She reminds us of our roots – “Do you think you were born in a barn?”
She teaches us the wisdom of the ages – “When you get to be my age, you’ll understand.”
My mom taught me the importance of washing my hands long before COVID. And I learned the importance of words when my mother said, “Son, think before you speak. Once a word has been spoken, though you might apologize over and over again, you cannot take it back.” Oh, how true this is! I’m still trying to learn this lesson. I remember her saying, “Son, guard your emotions.” She usually reminded me of this as I walked out the door on my way to pick up Cindi for a date. Cindi’s mom passed into Paradise when she was only 15. I had my mom all the way up until a few months ago. We all experience good times and bad times. Try to remember the good times and leave the bad times in the past.
Next Sunday, May 21st immediately following our Bible classes we will celebrate May Birthdays and Anniversaries and our graduates with a pot-luck lunch together across the parking lot in our Annex Building. Right after the potluck lunch at 12:30 we will meet back down in the auditorium for our afternoon service. We will NOT meet at 5:00. We will be taking the new church bus to the Gospel Meeting at Greenbrier on Sunday evening, May 21st. If you would like to ride with us, be at the church building at 6:15 p.m.
