November in the Natural State is certainly a beautiful experience: falling leaves, the aroma of fall in the air, thoughts of the holidays on the horizon…the simple things that remind us of God’s power, promises, and His provision for all who love Him and live according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). It is a pleasure and privilege to be walking in the light as He is in the light. May we all appreciate God’s riches and let Him know just how thankful we are to be His children today as we worship in spirit and in truth. Cindi and I began year #5 at Harding Street last Sunday (6th). Thank you for your patience, confidence, and support over these past four years with all the ups and downs of life. God has been so good to us. Even though we do not know what tomorrow will hold, we do know who holds tomorrow. With God, all things are possible.
We are enjoying a good November Sunday sermon series “Walking in the Light as He is in the Light.” Yesterday our lesson was on the “I” in L-I-G-H-T – “His Image.” Last time we looked at the “L” and saw that Love is the supreme objective, the supreme action, and the supreme replication of life and asked ourselves, “Are we walking in the LOVE of Jesus?” This week we considered the question, “Are we walking in the IMAGE of Jesus?” We are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27). Well then, do we look like Him? Do we think like Him? Do we act like Him? I want people to see Jesus in me. How about you? What does John 13:35 say? “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” People watch. They see. And they know who we are.
On the evening today at 5:00 we studied the second lesson in our Thanksgiving series entitled: “Gratitude: A Proper Perspective” and looked at three things that often keep us from experiencing gratitude in our lives: pride, a critical spirit, and carelessness then offered the answer to these obstacles to gratitude. In our day it seems that appreciation for one another is seldom experienced out in the world. Even in the church we sometimes forget how important it is to show and share gratitude. I heard about a lady who boarded a crowded bus. There were no seats available until a gentleman stood up and kindly offered her his seat. She was so surprised by his gesture that she fainted on the spot. After she regained consciousness, she said “Thank you” to the man who offered her his seat and upon hearing her gratitude, he fainted. I don’t know if this is true or not, but as Christians let us show one another and the entire world that we are thankful by our expressions, words, and actions. Today and every day look for every opportunity to say, “Thank you” and truly BE thankful.
Mark your calendar for this coming Sunday, November 20 following our Sunday morning Bible classes when we will meet for our Birthday and Anniversary Celebration Potluck Lunch together up in the Annex. Prepare enough food for your family and a little extra for our guests. MB
