Good morning family and friends. We’ve had a terrific week last week, busy showing and sharing God’s love with all we meet. Our “VBS” was Saturday (23rd). It was a long day for sure, but so very rewarding. We are so happy to be able to host our VBS again. Thank you to Geoffrey, the entire youth group, our teachers, assistants, and everyone who helped in any way to see that our VBS was a success. To God be the glory in all these things.
We only have one life to live! How are we living it? In the evening we close our eyes in sleep and then in an instant, it seems morning comes, and we open our eyes to a new day. Yesterday is gone. Today is ours to live as we choose, and we must choose wisely. Tomorrow may or may not be ours to enjoy. My Papa Burleson always said, “Son, plan to live and prepare to die.” And I try to live by this rule. We have too little time to waste even a moment on things that simply do not matter, regret, hesitation, worry, hate, fear, and such things. Only “a moment” ago, back in May we were talking about the summer and how much we wanted to feel the summer sun, warm temperatures, and have a few days off. Well, at 105 degrees and no rain in sight, what are saying now? You know. You’ve probably said it. James wrote about life in chapter 4, verse 14; “Life is even as a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” Let’s not wish our lives away. Instead, let us cease the day.
Our summer Sunday morning series “Walking in the Way of the Old Rugged Cross – The Experience” is going well. We looked at the “O” in C-R-O-S-S – OPPORTUNITIES. As we carry our cross walking in Jesus’ footprints, we will experience challenges, responsibilities, and opportunities, opportunities to live, love, laugh, and learn. Our text is Galatians 6:7-10 where God asked us to do good to all everyday as we have opportunity. On the evening we focused on another fact of life that never changes. In an ever-changing world, some things never change, CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES. We looked at some of these Christian principles that simply do not change: the Christian Graces, living for God every day, meeting together on the Lord’s Day, fulfilling our commission to share Jesus with the world, remaining steadfast in the faith, and living for Christ all the way through. I needed this lesson. God is always changing us.
We extend our deepest sympathy to our dear brother Luther Bryant, a faithful, life-long member of the church of Christ at Harding Street. He was laid to rest in Center Ridge after his funeral service last Thursday. He was 88 years young. Thank you to Brother Bane for your words of encouragement to the Bryant family and to Gary and Pam Watters for your dedicated service to Brother Bryant. He truly lived out Jesus’ words in Revelation 2:10, “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
Our Wednesday evening Bible study is going very well. If you are not currently coming out on Wednesday’s at 7:00 for Bible study, make a positive change today. You will be so glad you did. We have classes for all ages and interests. You know how you can have a greater stronger faith. “So then faith comes by __________, and ___________ by the word of God” – Romans 10:17. Come and see.
