Hello friends. Welcome. July already! It is such a joy to serve the Lord with here with the church of Christ at Harding Street. God is so good to us. I am thankful. Did you enjoy your Independence Day Monday? My mind always goes way on back from the day we declared our independence from Britain to the day Jesus liberated me personally from my sin and its entanglements: January 29, 1972, and even further back to His life and teachings and His death, burial, and His resurrection. In Him and in Him alone do we find our hope and our salvation.
We all are living in tough times. Almost every day I speak with someone who is in some kind of need. Usually, one of the first questions I ask is, “Are you a Christian?” Many say, “Yes” but as I discuss what a Christian actually is, they begin to make excuses as to why they “haven’t met with the church in years” or “haven’t read the Bible in who knows how long” or “haven’t prayed to God for the help they need” or “haven’t asked for forgiveness for the reasons they are in such need” or “haven’t helped anyone with anything” or “haven’t worked in so long” or . . .” I could go on and on. All we need is supplied by our Father, God when and as we come to Him in repentance and honesty forfeiting our own will, seeking to know His will and after knowing it, doing it? What does the Bible tell us? Look at Matthew 6:33. Just before Jesus made the statement in verse 33, He said, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (the world or money).” We must make up our mind as to who we will follow. Jesus then spoke about worry and why we do. He talked about God’s power, provision, and promises to those who love Him and so there is no need to worry. Then He gave the answer to having our needs met; “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and ALL THESE THINGS SHALL BE ADDED TO YOU.”
Health, happiness, prosperity, and personal growth requires nutritious food, reasonable exercise, and time. I read a “funny” the other day about a lady who spoke to the preacher about his lessons. She told him that she got very little if anything at all from the lessons he presented. He suggested that a person gets out of anything as much as they put into it. A true statement indeed.
Sunday, we concluded our lessons series “Walking in the Pathway of the Old Rugged Cross – The Requirements” with a lesson on the final letter in C-R-O-S-S – SINCERITY. As we walk with Jesus carrying our cross, we must present what is TRUE and AUTHENTIC, not conforming but allowing ourselves to be transformed by God through His word. We must be SERIOUS, honest, and pure in Christ Jesus every day. On the evening at 5:00 we took a look at God’s MORAL LAWS that never change. MB
