Last week was a dark week in Texas, in America, and in the world. A young man aimless, angry, without hope, lost. Children dying. Families in sorrow and grief. Authorities searching for solutions. Questions that have no answers. What can we do? We must be better. When people turn away from God and His instructions, all hope is lost. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” – Hebrews 11:1. Since faith in God is the substance of hope, without faith, there can be no hope. Our world needs hope. To have hope in this world, faith in God is required. Read Ephesians 6 to see the clear solution to many of our problems today. Children, obey your parents. Honor your parents. Parents, specifically fathers: do not speak to or treat your children in such a way that they lose hope. Parents: bring up your children in the training and discipline of the Lord. Obey those in authority with fear and trembling in sincerity of heart as to Christ. Those in authority should treat those in subordinate positions with goodwill and understanding without prejudice knowing that God sees, hears, knows, and returns accordingly. Know who the real enemy is, not people, but the devil, not flesh and blood, but principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this age, spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). Become a Christian and live the Christian life. Pray and always be watchful with patience and persistence. Can’t you see how following this one short chapter in the Bible, given to us by our Creator could and would change every person, every family, and eventually the entire world. Change begins with me and with you.
This past Sunday we began a new series of sermons on “The Old Rugged Cross” and what carrying the cross of Jesus requires. Our plan is to take the word C-R-O-S-S and learn what Jesus requires when we decide to carry it into eternity. We looked at the “C” and “COURAGE.” We looked at pictures of courage: Joshua and Caleb, Timothy, and Jesus and then looked at what is means to have courage as we carry the old rugged cross with Jesus. Next up: “R” – REASON.
On the evening at 5:00 we focused our attention on things that never change in an ever-changing world. Our Sunday Night Series is entitled, “Do We Really Need Another Gospel?” The short answer is absolutely not. Our main texts are James 1:12-18 and Galatians 1:6-10. We always enjoy wonderful Christian fellowship, beautiful singing, prayer, and a good lesson from God’s word every Sunday evening at 5:00. Come and see. You will be so glad you invested your time and yourself in strengthening your faith and is the substance of your hope.
