Good morning. Welcome. It is always good to be together on the Lord’s Day to honor God in spirit and in truth: singing, praying, giving, remembering, and learning. The church of Christ in the Bible did what we do every Sunday. They sang psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:19). They prayed together and shared their worldly possessions with one another (Acts 5:31-37). They met together to remember Jesus’ sacrifice in the Lord’s Supper and also listened to the word of God preached (Acts 20:7). I am glad we are continuing steadfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers (Acts 2:42). This we will continue to do just as God in His word directs. We are not alone. Christians all around the world are following the same instructions. It could be that you haven’t been meeting with your fellow Christians on Sunday and at other times during the week. Make a real and beneficial change this week for yourself, your family, for the church, and for God. Come and see.
Continue to pray for our church secretary and dear Christian sister Rosetta Chenault as she battles back from serious surgery. She is in the hospital in Little Rock, now in a regular room. We are so thankful for her improvement. May God bless her and the Chenault family as they continue in the work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope (1 Thessalonians 1:4).
Our sermon yesterday was entitled “Living Life Generously.” Jesus said in Acts 20:35, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Do you believe Him? If you do, then what should you be about doing? Jesus also said, “Give, and it shall be given to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over…” Do you believe Him? If you do, then what should you be about doing? Jesus then told us that we will receive from the same measure we use to give. When we give, we are more like God. When we give, we are closer to God. When we give, we conquer materialism. Giving strengthens our faith. When we give, we are investing in eternity. When we give, we are blessed in every way. When we give, we are happy. These statements are true. Don’t believe me? Try it out for yourself. Then, you will know that Jesus is exactly right.
On the evening we looked at the decisions we make every day and how we can make those decisions with an eye toward eternity; “Decisions Looking Beyond the Moment.” In the Bible some did NOT make their decisions looking beyond the moment and paid dearly. Others did look beyond the moment in making their decisions and enjoyed a much better outcome. Thank you so much for the privilege of standing before you to share lessons from the Bible that I hope will challenge you and encourage you to greater love and good works (Hebrews 10:24). MB
