Good morning and welcome. We certainly had a good Sunday worship hour and Bible classes yesterday, the first Sunday in April. We have so very much to be thankful for and happy about even in the midst of so many local and worldwide challenges. I am smiling now and pretty much all the time thinking about how blessed we are here at Harding Street to have each other and our Father’s provision.
I read the following article about a smile this week. A smile costs nothing and gives so much. It enriches those who receive it without making poorer those who give it. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes last forever. None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it and none so poor, but he can be made rich by it. A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters goodwill in business, and is the sign of friendship. It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and is nature’s best antidote for trouble. A smile cannot be borrowed or stolen for it is something of no value to anyone unless it is given away. Some people are too weary or troubled to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give. Our children sometimes sing; “Smile awhile and give your face a rest. Lift your hands to the One who loves you best. Then shake hands with the one next to you and greet them with a smile.”
One of the most difficulty things to give away is kindness. Kindness is usually returned.
Our Sunday morning sermon series continues “Challenges We Must Face – Building Against the Storms.” On Sunday we looked at temptation and how we can establish a foundation that will help us to withstand the enemy’s tricks and not yield to his tempting. Are you dressed for success? What you wear matters. Put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the helmet of salvation, and carry the sword of the spirit and the shield of faith. The suit of the armor of God we wear every day will help us against the enemy’s tactics.
On the evening at 5:00 we continued in our series “Following the Footprints of Jesus” with a lesson on Jesus’ SERIOUSNESS and PATIENCE. Jesus is careful and considerate, sincere, and earnest in His appearance and manner. He is also able to tolerate delays, problems, and suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious. Are we?
We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of our dear Brother David Latimer. Brother David passed from this life into the hands of the Savior last Wednesday after a long battle with cancer. Only a few days ago we were sitting together up in the Annex Building laughing and talking about the experiences of life. Indeed, life is even as a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away, but there is coming a day when no heartaches shall come, no more clouds in the sky, no more tears to dim the eye. All is peace forevermore on that happy golden shore. What a day, glorious day that will be. What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see, and I look upon His face, the One who saved me by His grace; when He takes me by the hand and leads me through the promised land. What a day, glorious day that will be.
