Hello family and friends! You may not think that Spring is on the horizon due to what we’ve experienced over the past few days, but it really is. According to my calendar the first day of Spring is March 20th. God knows what He’s doing. We’ll adjust and keep moving forward. We had to cancel our in-person Bible study last Wednesday and go to an online class due to this wintry weather. Our eldership thought that was best for everyone since the cold rain and sleet made the roads and the parking lot slick and dangerous. I still have ice at my house.
We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of our dear Christian sister Georgia Brown who was laid to rest yesterday here at the building. Thank you to everyone who loved Sister Brown.
On the other side of the world Russia has invaded Ukraine. One of my friends from Alabama was in Ukraine when the invasion occurred and from the latest information, he has made his way to Poland and hopes to find a way home soon. Pray. Pray for peace. Pray for God’s grace and mercy on us and on His world. We all enjoy the privilege and the responsibility to pray, live, and work “that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior” (I Timothy 2:1-3). I’d like to focus on this thought.
P-R-A-Y! We need to pray, daily, fervently, persistently to our Father God for our governing authorities who have a huge task before them. There are so many problems within and without. Remember what the Holy Spirit says in Philippians 4:6 – “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, LET YOUR REQUESTS BE MADE KNOW TO GOD.” The answer to our prayer to God results in the following blessing from God (7); “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
L-I-V-E! Regardless of what happens or doesn’t happen in Washington D.C. or Russia or Ukraine, God challenges us, you and me with the stewardship of His great riches; our time, talents, and treasures. We must live every day, using God’s gifts in the most effective and efficient way possible.
W-O-R-K! That word is scary to some, difficult for many, and almost unheard of for a few. Yet any endeavor requires it. Every accomplishment is achieved by it. Our country was founded on it. America has survived these many generations because of it, and will continue to thrive through it. We all will be judged by it one day (Revelation 20:12). Jesus worked (John 9:4, 17:4). Paul worked. He fought the good fight. He finished the race. He kept the faith (II Timothy 4:7). We are commanded to work. So let us pray, and live, and work. God will answer, and provide, and strengthen.
