TO EVERY CHRISTIAN: Read the Bible, God’s word every day. Why? Well, the strength of our faith and our ability to stand firm against temptation lies in our knowledge of the Bible. In Romans 10:17 we find that “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 1 about the prosperity of the person who reads and knows God’s word. “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” This person is pictured as a healthy tree growing and prospering year after year and finishes by saying, “And whatever he does shall prosper.” In Matthew 7:24-27 Jesus finished His sermon on the mountain with statements about the importance of hearing and doing His word and how foolish it is to hear and know what needs to be done and then just not do it. Wise people hear, learn, know, and do. Are you one of the wise? Or one of the foolish. And think about how Jesus was strong enough to resist the devil’s temptations in Matthew 4. At every turn Jesus said, “It is written…” Eventually the devil left Him. The enemy simply could not stand up under the pressure of hearing God’s word. I hope you will consider this short paragraph as a reminder to decide on a time to read the Bible every day for a stronger faith and a stronger life.
This week we continued in our series “Find the Joy” with a lesson entitled “Find the Joy in ear
Hearing the Gospel Preached.” Gospel preaching blesses us, but we must hear it gracefully. Hearing the gospel preached strengthens our faith, but we must hear it carefully. Gospel preaching makes us more fruitful in our lives, but we must hear it attentively. Hearing gospel preaching helps us to be equipped to face life’s opportunities and challenges, but we must hear it completely. Jesus is right. Always has been. Always will be. On the evening at 5:00 we completed our series B-R-A-V-E and considered the “E” in being a Brave Christian. Brave Christians ENDURE suffering. God doesn’t explain suffering. He doesn’t usually stop suffering from happening. God does use suffering to make us stronger and better. Even Jesus suffered and because of it, He is our Savior.
Suffering is all around us. The list of those who need our Father’s help is so long. Pray for them. May God help us to keep on keeping on taking one step at a time, one day at a time, always moving forward toward heaven. We can make it together. MB
