Hello! Good morning to you on this beautiful Monday before Thanksgiving. That’s right! Thursday is Thanksgiving! I hope we all realize that “Thanksgiving” is more than just a day on the calendar. We have so much to be thankful for. Don’t get me wrong. We certainly have problems as a society and we have problems individually. But in and through it all we are blessed. We often sing the hymn “Count Your Many Blessings” in our books #643.
When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings every doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.
When you look others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold,
Count your many blessings, money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven nor your home on high
So, amid the conflict, whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end
Count your blessings, name them one by one
Count your blessings, see what God has done
Count your blessings, name them one by one
Count your many blessings, see what God has done.
Our lesson yesterday was entitled “Thankful – Today and Everyday.” In Luke 17 Jesus met 10 men who were lepers. They asked Him to help them, and Jesus did what Jesus always does; He healed them. When they looked and saw that they were healed, you would think that they would all return to show their gratitude to Jesus for His help. Instead, only one came to give thanks for his healing. Jesus was amazed that only one man came to say, “Thank you.” Jesus asked “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?” God blesses us time and time again. Are we like the one who returned to give thanks to God for His providence? Or are we like one of the nine who didn’t. Think of the past and be thankful. Appreciate the present and be thankful. Decide for the future and be thankful. Sunday evening at 5:00 we looked at developing positive expectation. Make Sunday evening Harding Street at special priority for your family. MB
