Autumn in Arkansas is certainly a beautiful experience: falling leaves, cool mornings, the aroma of fall in the air, Razorback football (4 and 0 – Can you believe it?), and thoughts of the holiday season approaching…the simple things that remind us of God’s power, His promises, and His provision for all who love Him and live according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). It is a pleasure to live in Morrilton beside the Arkansas river at the foot of Petit Jean Mountain. May we all come to appreciate God’s riches more and more and let Him know just how thankful we are to be His children, today and every day. Our newly designed bulletin board in the lobby says it best; “GIVE THANKS.”
We concluded our morning sermon series “Just who is Jesus that I should believe in Him” this past Sunday. Jesus is the SOURCE of life and living. John said, “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men” – John 1:3-4. Jesus is the SUSTAINER of life and living. Luke wrote what Paul said in Acts 17: 25 and 28, “…He gives to all life, breath, and all things…for in Him we live and move and have our very being.” Jesus is also the PATTERN for life and living. Paul said, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ” – 1 Corinthians 11:1. Jesus is also THE (NOT “A”) AUTHORITY for life and living. He has been given ALL AUTHORITY both in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18) and so we are responsible and accountable for life and how we live it.
On the evening we looked at part 2 in our series “Be All You Can Be” with the remaining points on FOLLOWING GOD’S PLAN. If we are to be all we can be for God, we need to have the right attitude. We need to examine ourselves and realize that we still have much to do and a long way to go. We must never think that we are good enough. The Bible is written to show us God’s plan for life and living. When we read the Bible, we find that Jesus preached peace and went about doing good. We find that Jesus loved everyone and demonstrated that love in every way and He always spoke the truth in love without compromise. We find that the church of Christ in the Bible went everywhere preaching the word. We find that God calls every Christian to be willing and ready to sacrifice what we need to sacrifice for the cause of Christ. We find that we must organize our lives according to God’s plan. Finally, we come to understand that just reading about God’s plan is not enough. We must hear and do what we are called to do. Are you being all you can be in your life and living?
