Hello family and friends. Last Saturday was the 20th anniversary of 9/11/2001. 20 years? These numbers…this day…I remember exactly where I was when 19 Islamic terrorists took our own planes and used them as weapons against us. And in just a few moments everything changed. The world changed. Two planes hit the World Trade Center bringing both “twin towers” down and killing more than 3,000 people and 400 police officers, firefighters, and port authority agents and injuring more than 10,000 others. One hour later another plane hit our Pentagon killing 189 people. A fourth plane was also hijacked and crashed into a field in Pennsylvania killing all 45 people on board. Yet America remains, still here, still strong…well, you and I both know that we have many problems, problems without and problems within. What shall we do, you and I? We will do what is right every day. We will be merciful in thought, word, and deed. We will walk with the Lord in humility (Micah 6:8). We will trust in the Lord will all our heart and lean not on our own understanding. We will acknowledge Him in all our ways, and He will continue to direct the path of life (Proverbs 3:5-6). We will love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our strength, and will all our mind. We will love one another (Luke 10:27).
Our sermon series continued this past Sunday with another reason you and I should believe in Jesus – “Who is Jesus that I would want to believe in Him?” Well, Jesus is not only the SOURCE of life and living. He also SUSTAINS life and living. Every human being on the earth is family. God provides life, breath, and all things. In Him we live and move and have our very being. We are His offspring, His children. One day our Father, God will call every person into account based on the life of Jesus whom He has ordained (Acts 17:23-31). We rely on the Lord’s sustenance every single hour of every day. Without Him we cannot exist.
On the evening we looked at the next step in our sermon series “Be All You Can Be – Don’t Even Think You’re Good Enough.” God calls us to learn and keep learning, to grow and keep growing, to change and keep changing ever more into all we can be as His children, to give all diligence to add to our faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love (II Peter 1:5-10).
TO ALL HARDING STREET BRETHREN & FRIENDS: This past Sunday following the singing, prayer, sermon, the Lord’s Supper, and the offering, we passed the offering baskets a second time to collect a special offering to go toward helping our neighbors in Louisiana and other parts of the country who are recovering from the recent storms. It could be that you would like to participate in assisting as well. Please prayerfully consider what monetary gift you can give and do so knowing that God loves a cheerful giver. Our address is
Harding Street Church of Christ
