Good morning to you, my friends. Thank you for reading. Every Sunday is the Lord’s Day and we rejoice when we have another opportunity to meet to worship God, study the Bible, and enjoy Christian fellowship. I hope you are settling into the “back to school” routine. Summer is quickly coming to a close in only a few days and fall is on the horizon on the 22nd.
We are in constant prayer to God for so much and for so many. We’re so very sorry for our fellow Christians and our neighbors in Louisiana who are facing the aftermath of hurricane Ida. It seems that every year about this time we are watching our gulf coast neighbors suffer through storms. This Sunday, September 12th we will “pass the offering baskets” so that we can provide some relief to those who are in need. Prayerfully consider what you can give toward this effort. We are also in prayer for all the people of Afghanistan as they try to survive such heartbreaking turmoil, especially those who are Christians. It seems that enemies are everywhere; without and within. Who can be trusted? I hear that the enemies of Christ are going door to door attempting to find anyone who professes to be a Christian to question them. And who knows what could happen. We also pray for the families of our young service men and women who were killed simply trying to help innocent people get out of the war-torn desolated city of Kabul. The pictures we see on TV do not do justice to what is actually happening there. May God bless us all.
Football season has begun. Our Morrilton High School Devil Dogs are trying to survive some tough early games against Conway, Russellville, this past Friday night, Beebe, and then Wynne before a break and conference play. Several players are members of the church as well as our head coach. As you consider our chances remember this: It has been said that every football team could use a player who could play every position perfectly, who never fumbles the ball or misses a tackle and who never makes a mistake…but there’s no way to get him to put down his hot dog and drink and come down out of the stands. There is seldom any shortage of critics in the stands who say, after a player has made a mistake, just how the play should have been made. It probably wouldn’t be too difficult to find a person who would have scored the winning touchdown if he had been running the ball. You see, it’s much easier to talk a perfect game than to play one. The same can be said of the Christian life.
The Christian life is a race that has to be run, a fight that has to be fought, and a life that has to be lived every day, rather than something that can simply be done sitting on the sidelines looking on. We must come out of the stands and participate in the race before us and not just be an onlooker – Hebrews 12:1-2.
We began a new sermon series on Sunday entitled “Why would anyone believe in Jesus? Just who is Jesus anyway?” We saw that Jesus is the SOURCE OF LIFE AND LIVING. On the evening at 5:00 we studied from the Bible about how we can BE ALL THAT WE CAN BE by HAVING THE RIGHT ATTITUDE. We plan to keep going to lesson #2 this coming Sunday, Lord willing. Come and be blessed. MB
