Welcome dear Christian family and precious friends. Our monthly BIRTHDAY & ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION POT-LUCK LUNCH this past Sunday was a terrific success. Every month we meet just across the parking lot in our Annex Building for a meal together to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries together. LADIES: Remember your very special LADIES NIGHT OUT AT GERALDINE CROW’S Tuesday evening, July 27th at 6:00 P.M. Don’t worry about bringing any food this month. Food will be provided by Gereta and Geraldine.
Normally (whatever that is these days) we would be planning for our annual VBS but due to the increase in virus cases in our area our eldership thought is best to forego VBS this year. We are so very thankful that we do not have anyone with the virus within the congregation, and we want to keep it that way. We just want to keep everyone safe and healthy.
In my studies this past week, I read about a caring and benevolent doctor who would often check his books for debts that had not been paid. Sometimes he would place a red mark through those debts and write: “FORGIVEN, UNABLE TO PAY.” The patient was then released from the debt, and the doctor absorbed the loss himself.
Eventually the good doctor died, and his widow tried to collect those debts that were outstanding. Appearing before a judge, the widow was asked if she had any proof of the debts. She replied, “Yes, I do” and presented the doctor’s books to the judge.
See the red marks through the unpaid amounts, the judge asked the widow if the writing was that of her husband. When she responded affirmatively, the judge then said, “Then no court in the world would give you a judgment against these people when your husband with his own pen has written, ‘FORGIVEN, UNABLE TO PAY.’”
You and I have a tremendous dept that we owe! It is the debt of our sin. Our debt is so great that there is absolutely no way we could ever repay it. The good news is that when we obey the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, He writes upon the record of our debt of sin, “FORGIVEN: UNABLE TO PAY.” Jesus is indeed the Great Physician. He alone is the One and the Only One who has the authority to write across the account of our lives “FORGIVEN: UNABLE TO PAY.”
Take your Bible and read in Matthew 18:23-27. Jesus Himself teaches about a certain servant who owed his king an impossible debt; 10,000 talents. Now just what would be the value of this debt in today’s money? Go ahead and “Google it.” When I “Googled” this question there were several answers, but the final answer is, “This debt could never, and I mean never do it. One answer was this, “10,000 talents is equal to 200,000 years of labor or 60,000,000 working days. What is your salary per day? Multiply that by 60,000,000 and this would be your debt. See? Come to Jesus today. He is our only hope. Trust Him. Repent of your sins. Confess Him. Have Him wash away your sins in baptism. Follow Him in your life. Jesus forgives the debt, releases us from it, and writes upon our lives, “FORGIVEN” UNABLE TO PAY.”
