Hello and welcome on this beautiful day. This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it. You are special. You and I matter. You and I are vitally important to the church of Christ at Harding Street. You and I, we are the church of Christ at Harding Street. Without you and I where would we be? What could we do? How could we exist?
Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody were all neighbors in a community and brothers and sisters in the church of Christ at Harding Street. These Christians were unlike you and me for they were more mature in their judgments.
Everybody was too afraid of the virus to meet with the church on Sunday but didn’t have any trouble going to the grocery store, restaurant, or family get-togethers any day of the week. Somebody usually went to his grandchildren’s sporting events on Sunday. Anybody would have meet with the church, but he thought he wouldn’t really be missed since Everybody would be there. So, Nobody went to worship.
Not long ago one of the elders needed a teacher for one of the Bible classes. Everybody thought Somebody would teach the class and Somebody thought Anybody could do the teaching. So, they wound up with Nobody teaching the class.
It seems that Nobody was the only decent member of the church among them. Nobody did the work when Everybody didn’t, when Somebody wouldn’t, and Anybody couldn’t.
One day an unbeliever moved into the community. Everybody honestly believed Somebody would teach him the gospel. Somebody thought Anybody could while Anybody thought Everybody had already talked to this person. Guess who finally won this person to Christ…That’s right – Nobody.
The years went by and these four Christians (?), Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody died and went to meet their Maker. Guess who finally went to heaven…That’s right – Nobody.
In Matthew 25 we find Jesus’ Parable of the Talents. The five-talent servant and the two-talent servant both heard their lord say what we long to hear our Lord say one day at the end of life’s journey; “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.” God cannot lie (Titus 1:2). If you and I expect God to say “Well done” then we must do well. If we expect God to say “Good and faithful servant” then we must be good and faithful and living our lives in service to God by serving others. If we ever expect to enter heaven, then we must be faithful over the few things God has placed into our care, our time, our talents, and our treasures.

Good thoughts for all of us to consider.
