November! Autumn! Falling leaves! Deer season. Cooler temperatures. The smell of wood burning in the fireplace. Family together. Time change! I hope you remembered to “fall back” last evening. The turkey and dressing, cranberry sauce, and pecan pie are just around the corner. The holidays are on the horizon. Don’t you just love this time of year? I certainly do.
This Tuesday, November 3rd is Election Day in America. We will fulfill our duty to cast our vote to elect men and women who will serve our great nation. Many of us voted early. In Joshua 24:15, Joshua asked God’s people to “choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve” and then courageously announced; “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Our choice is a little bit different. We might say, “Choose for yourselves this day who will serve you, your family, and this great nation of ours, the United States of America.” May God bless us with strength, faith, love, wisdom, knowledge, the fullness of God, and courage as we cast our vote and then trust “that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). God is our all in all.
Our Sunday morning lesson this week asks each of us “Will I do what I should do when God ask me to make the adjustment I need to make to fulfill His purpose?” God has always required those who follow Him to adjust their lives to His purpose. Last Sunday we focused on the Rich Young Ruler in Mark 10. There were things TO DO. There were things NOT TO DO. Today we will take a look at Adam and Eve to see the adjustment they had to make to fulfill God purpose for them. If you are a Bible student, you already know the answer to the question.
Our Sunday evening lesson is entitled “Where is the Love?” We are looking at what we can do to revitalize our love for God, for others, and for ourselves. This evening at 5:00 we will take a look a six “Myths of Love.” What do you think? God will always make me happy. Really? Christianity is a highly charged, endless feeling of love and joy. Okay? As a Christian I will always feel secure, loved, uplifted, and enjoy spiritual growth according to my own personal preference. Wow! God simply will not allow me to suffer. You’ve got to be kidding! I am not to blame for how I feel. Well, who is? It is not my responsibility to revitalize my love. If not, then who’s responsibility is it? You see what I mean about the “myths” of love. We will mention these “myths” and offer solutions from God’s word.
Remember the “Harvest of Hope Food Drive” for the Conway County Care Center and bring Spaghetti noodles and Spaghetti sauce to be delivered to the care center before Thanksgiving.
Congratulations to Emmy Lou DuVall on her selection as Student Citizen of the Year from Wonder View High School. Thank you, Emmy for your wonderful Christian example. May God bless you.
