Welcome family and friends! We are having such beautiful weather lately as summer has given way to fall. The leaves on the trees at my house are beginning turn and fall. Life is certainly different these days. I pray every day that we will soon be free again to greet one another with a holy kiss (Romans 16:16), to visit without “social-distancing,” and to stand in victory over the virus. I hope you are doing well during these troublesome times.
We have had a setback at Harding Street due to the increase in active cases of the virus in our area lately. Our eldership has decided to take a step back and only meet for Facebook LIVE online services for the next two weeks, October 11 and October 18. We plan to begin meeting again for “in person” services on October 25. Please tune in to Facebook LIVE every Sunday morning at 9:00 and then again on Sunday evening at 5:00 for worship and Bible study. We will also have Bible study on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. If you need communion supplies, please drive by the church building at your convenience and pick up what you need. A roll cart has been stocked and left for you beside the front entrance to the main building. May God bless us as we move ever forward in strength, faith, love, understanding, knowledge, and in the fullness of God. Paul prayed to God for the church at Ephesus that they might receive these grand blessings. I am praying that we may receive these blessings as well.
This Sunday morning (11th) our lesson online is entitled “God is Able to Subdue All Things to Himself” meaning God is all-powerful and has everything under His control. I so happy have that too. In Genesis 1:3 God spoke. Do you remember what happened? In Mark 4:35-41 Jesus and His disciples were in a boat in a storm. Jesus was asleep. The disciples thought they were going to die. When Jesus woke up then said only three words. Do you remember the words and then what happened? In John 11:35, then 41-42 at Lazarus’ tomb Jesus wept, he prayed, then once again only said three words. Do you remember those three words and what happened? In Matthew 8:28-34 – Right after stilling the storm two exceedingly fierce demon-possessed men approached Jesus. Jesus spoke only one word. Do you remember the word and then what happened? Then in Matthew 26:53 – At His betrayal and arrest Jesus told Peter; “Or do you not think that I cannot now pray to My Father and He will provide Me with more than 12 legions of angels…” Just what do you think would have happened if Jesus would have prayed that prayer? I am looking forward to sharing this lesson with you online.
On Sunday evening (11th) we will ask ourselves the question “Am I Willing” and evaluate our personal commitment to Jesus. Am I willing to trust Him? Peter trusted Jesus at first but then didn’t. Am I willing to obey Him? Jesus’ brothers didn’t at first but later did. Am I willing to sacrifice for Him? The rulers believed in Jesus but would not do what they needed to do to be saved. I hope you are willing to trust Jesus, to obey Him, and then make the sacrifice you need to make to be right and stay right with Him. He loves us so.
