Hello and welcome. We are blessed to have the privilege of meeting together every Sunday in the name of Jesus Christ for worship, fellowship, and Bible study. Sometimes this is mighty hard to do, but when we gather to worship let us put aside any worldly thought, word, or deed as we sing praises to God, pray in Jesus’ name, give generously and happily from all the riches God has given us, remember Jesus’ great sacrifice and examine ourselves in the Lord’s Supper, and as we hear a message from God’s word. Also put aside any sin that might stand between us and God as we worship. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to Me…and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me…and you will find rest for your soul.” What a promise!
I hope you are now settled into your new way of doing things at school as summer closes and Autumn arrives on Tuesday. These are tough times. The recent hurricanes, the fires out west, the virus that continues to affect and afflict many, civil unrest in many of our major cities, and all the “news” concerning the upcoming presidential election on November 3rd can certainly be burdensome to us all. Let us be in constant prayer to our Father in heaven for strength, wisdom, healing, and help through these troublesome times. Remember these wonderful words of promise from the Bible:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed and though the mountains be carried into the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling” (Psalm 46:1-3).
“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge” (Psalm 46:10-11).
The Morrilton High School Devil Dogs are 1 and 2 with a big win over Beebe (41 to 7) and two close loses to Russellville (15 to 10) and Wynne (20 to 19). Next up is our first conference game scheduled for September 25 at home against Greenbrier.
It has been said that every football team could use a player who could play every position perfectly, who never fumbles the ball or misses a tackle, and who never makes a mistake…but there’s no way to get him to put down his hot dog and drink and come down out of the stands. There is no shortage of critics in the stands who say, after a player has made a mistake, just how the play should have been made. It is not too difficult to find a person who would have scored the winning touchdown if he had been running the ball. You see, it is much easier to talk a perfect game than to play one.
The Christian life is a race that is to be run, a fight that is to be fought, and a life that is to be lived every day, rather than something that can simply be done watching from the stands. Hebrews 12:1-2 says; “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin that so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” We must come out of the stands and participate in the race before us.
