Jesus said, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). This I want to do in my life. I must make the Lord’s church (His kingdom) and living and doing right the #1 priority every day.
God calls every member of the church of Christ at Harding Street to meet together at 906 E. Harding Street every Sunday at 9:00 and 5:00 and on Wednesday evening for Bible study at 7:00. In Hebrews 10:24-25 we read; “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
This text teaches us some of the reasons we meet together: “To consider one another” (It’s not all about me), To stir up love and good works (We are called to help each other stay on the path that leads to heaven. We are not to be like Cain who said, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” We are to keep each other accountable), and To exhort one another (When I am down, you are to be there to lift me up, to encourage me. When you are down, I am to be there to life you up).
What do we do to accomplish God’s instructions in the above text? We sing, pray, give, remember Christ in the Lord’s Supper, and hear a message from God’s word showing and sharing our love for God and our love for one another. We enjoy sweet Christian fellowship as we smile, laugh, talk, listen, and think. God blesses us. This is not just “what we do.” This is “who we are.” Please realize the importance of our meeting together to make every meeting a joyous priority for your family. Our facilities are clean, sanitized, cool, and fresh. You never have to worry. Our children should never need to ask: “Are we “going to church” on Sunday?” or “Are we going to Bible study tonight?” or “Do we have to go to Bible study?” or beg: “Mom, Dad, please, please, please can we go to worship?” or any other question or statement that would reflect the idea that assembling together in the name of Jesus Christ was anything less than a priority in our family. Mom and Dad; make sure you promote Christ and Christian living every day in your home, in your life, and in the lives of your children. It could be that you simply cannot be here in person due to sickness, a weak immune system, or some other reason. Please know that we love you and are here for you if you need our help. We provide every service online on Facebook LIVE for you and those who cannot meet in person yet.
We will continue in our series “Useful and Fruitful” this Sunday (16th) and look at the second obstacle we have to overcome in order to be useful and fruitful in our lives: REGRET and the Rich Young Ruler in Mark 10:17-23. He was rich, young, had a position of authority. He was passionate, humble, polite, pure, and Jesus loved him. He was also lost and he knew it. Do you think regret was the problem? We’ll see. I look forward to sharing this lesson with you today.
This Sunday evening we will look again at PEACE, the PEACE OF GOD. Last time we looked at having PEACE WITH GOD. Until we have peace WITH God, we can never have the PEACE OF GOD. Colossians 3:15 tells us, “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which you were called into one body and be thankful.” When you take a closer look at this text you will find that we must LET the peace of God RULE in our hearts. We all need this peace, the peace of God, especially now.
