Hello my friends and family. My, my what beautiful weather we are having in August. Only a few more days and we will be getting into the “back to school” routine, whatever that may be these days. God will see us through these difficult and confusing times. Brother Bane will be preaching this Sunday.
Please consider these very true statements about salvation. Then take a look at someone, probably unlike you and me, one who “thinks himself to be something…”
#1 – NOT ALL WILL BE SAVED – “Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven” (Matthew 7:21).
#2 – MORE WILL BE LOST THAN WILL BE SAVED – “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow2 is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).
#3 – MANY WHO EXPECT TO BE SAVED WILL BE LOST – “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness” (Matthew 7:22-23).
#4 – CHRIST SAVES ONLY THOSE WHO OBEY HIM – “And having been perfected, He (Jesus) became the Author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him” (Hebrews 5:9).
#5 – IT IS TOO LATE TO OBEY AFTER DEATH – “And it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
#6 – TODAY MIGHT BE YOUR LAST OPPORTUNITY TO BE SAVED – “For He says, ‘In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation.”
What do you think of this conversation’ one-sided, but you’ll get the picture?
Of course, I’m a Christian! Well, no, I don’t get to Bible study much. I would have to stay another hour on Sunday, and someone has to get home early enough to have lunch ready. Wednesday evenings? Well, I’m usually too tired or have something else to do. No, I don’t go much on Sunday evenings either…to worship that is. You see, after a little trip on Sunday afternoon it is hard to get back in time for “church.” Check on the sick, the shut-in and wayward members? No. I’m not much good at that anyway and feel like somebody else could do a much better job. Besides, it always depresses me. I guess I wasn’t “cut out” for that sort of work. If I ever have any free time, I need the rest. As for giving, well, that’s mighty hard to do now a days. It takes so much to live on. Heaven? Oh yes, I’m going. What do you think I’m faithful for? If it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t be here some Sundays and partake of the Lord’s Supper. I think anybody that claims to be a Christian ought to at least be here some Sundays for the Lord’s Supper. At least that’s what I’ve always been taught. (I wonder who did the teaching).
“For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself” (Galatians 6:3).
