Hello! It has been quite rainy lately and I think clear weather is coming this weekend. I always look forward to Sunday. What a wonderful day to be together with fellow Christians and our guests to sing, pray, learn, remember Jesus in the Lord’s Supper, give, and just “be” together in Jesus’ name. Last Sunday we experienced the appointment of two fine Christian men to the eldership at Harding Street. We now have five men serving in that capacity. God is blessing us. Take a look at the “count” from last Sunday; 151 for worship and almost 100 for Bible class. Thank you to every Harding Street member and to our guests who come out every Sunday for Christian fellowship and to worship God in spirit and in truth. God is so good. We are thankful for His rich blessings toward us. We also meet for worship and a good lesson from the Bible on Sunday evening at 5:00 and then we meet for a period of devotional and then Bible study on Wednesday evening at 7:00 each week. Come and grow in your faith, hope, and love.
Sunday we will continue in our series “The Christian Graces” from 2 Peter 1:5-10 and consider “temperance” or “self-control.” Another way to look at this grace is in terms of moderation, balance, and controlled restraint. We have looked at faith, virtue, knowledge, and now we will ask ourselves, “Am I adding self-control to my life every day?” What do you think those who know you would say if they were asked about your self-control? Would they talk about how disciplined you are? Would they say you are patient and kind even under stressful situations? Evaluate yourself. Would you say that you are adding this Christian grace to your life, growing in temperance every day? No? Well, you can begin today to be a better person.
Our text will be taken from James 1:2-8. Here God teaches us the value of the “trials” of life, the many and various issues we face every day that can make us or break us depending on our response. These trials test our faith, virtue, knowledge, and especially our self-control and can produce in us two distinct and opposing attitudes; temperance or “temper.” I want to be “swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath” (James 1:19). I will do better.
Our new sound system is on order and will be delivered and installed very soon. We need help in this particular area of ministry at Harding Street; our multi-media and sound room. If you would like to help in this area, please see Brother Mickey or Brother Evan Freeman. When our new system is installed we plan to have professional training on how to best use it.
Our new 2020 Harding Street Church Directory is being processed now and will soon be in our hands for viewing.
The eldership is working tirelessly on our 2020 budget and will soon be speaking to the church regarding plans for the new year and expectations to further the gospel locally and around the world. Thanksgiving is less than three weeks away with the Christmas holidays around the corner. 2019 is quickly fading into history. 2020 is “at hand.”
