This coming weekend, October 12th and 13th, the youth of Harding Street will be taking a group to Branson, Missouri for the Church of Christ Weekend event at Silver Dollar City. There is usually a small group that goes, but this year the group has tripled. This is exciting news. Roller coasters might not be for everyone; however, the environment, singing, and fellowship surrounding this trip make it truly worth it.
I want to address an important component, or part, of what it means to be a Christian. We are ambassadors of Christ and we should always remember that in our everyday life, not just at a worship service (2 Corinthians 5:20). Everywhere we go, God’s light should shine through us and illuminate others. Silver Dollar City is a huge amusement park that sees thousands of people every day it’s open. This weekend will be no different. You are to put on the whole armour of God and others should know that you are a follower of Christ (Ephesians 6:11). This weekend you will be surrounded by fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. That is always a wonderful and powerful thing that you should not take for granted.
We will also be attending a congregational singing meetup while in the park. We are commanded to “sing and make music from our hearts to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:19). It is not very often that our small congregation in our small town sees hundreds and hundreds of people in attendance for worship. We should be grateful and take of advantage of this awesome opportunity to sing priase with other Christians who we are not familiar with and who have come from all over. It is truly incredible to see.
In addition, the shirts we plan to wear this weekend have Matthew 5:14 on the back of them. We, as ambassadors of Christ should be living by the message contained in that verse and the verses that follow it. This topic will be addressed more in depth in a later blog post; however, as of now it still ties into the topic of our youth trip. We would be hypocrites to wear a shirt about letting our light shine while dimming it for the world.
“For which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak” Ephesians 6:20
