Hello family and friends. Wednesday is 9/11/2019. “9/11” – These numbers…this day we will never forget…I remember exactly where I was 18 years ago when 19 Islamic terrorists took advantage of our freedoms then took our own planes and used them as weapons against us. And in just a few moments everything changed. The world changed. Two planes hit the World Trade Center bringing both “twin towers” down and killing more than 3,000 people and 400 police officers, firefighters, and port authority agents and injuring more than 10,000 others. One hour later another plane hit our Pentagon killing 189 people. A fourth plane was also hijacked and crashed into a field in Pennsylvania killing all 45 people on board. Since that fateful day the United States of America remains, still here, ever stronger, still relevant, still…well, you and I both know that we have many problems; problems without and problems within. What shall we do? Me? It is true that I cannot do very much, but I can do something. I will do what is right every day. I will be kind in thought, word, and deed. Of course kindness doesn’t mean weakness. My heart is open but so are my eyes. Kindness doesn’t mean saying “yes” to everything or agreeing with people, causes, and things that are opposed to God and His word. We can be kind and yet courageous in our stand against sin and for what is good and right. I will be humble. Again meekness does not mean weakness. God’s expectations are simple and direct. The prophet Micah in the days of old wrote regarding God’s “requirements” (6:8). “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
2020 HARDING STREET CHURCH OF CHRIST DIRECTORY: We are in the process of taking pictures for our brand new church directory and we really want every member of the church of Christ at Harding Street to be represented. Sunday (8th) please plan to stay after the morning worship hour to have your picture taken in the Ladies Bible Classroom; up front left. It only takes about 2 minutes. Come to the table at the front of the auditorium. Fill out a form. Get your picture taken. Return to Bible class. Done. No problem at all. Becca will see that you look really good for your photos.
Are you living your life, looking beyond the moment? This Sunday morning our lesson during the worship hour will center on Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7. Consider the “B-Attitudes.” Blessed are the poor in spirit, the mournful, the meek, those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, and the persecuted. Really? You will be able to understand only when you look beyond the moment. On Sunday evening at the 5 o’clock hour we will conclude our series “Living My Life the Way Jesus Lived His Life” with a lesson on gratitude and Jesus’ example of thanking God in advance. Come and see.
