Welcome! It’s that time of the year again; back to school. This week! Up earlier. To bed earlier too. Everyone learning and growing. Preparation and patience is required at home and everywhere else. More traffic. Less time is seems. More laundry. We can do this working together. It will take a few days, but the back to school routine will soon be the new old normal for all of us. And during these busy times let us not forget what is most important: living our lives for God. He must still be #1 even in all the busyness of life. Pray every day for others, for yourself, and for our world. What does the Bible say, “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man (or woman, boy or girl) avails much” (James 5:16). Believe it. Read and remember God’s word, the Bible every day, even if it’s only a verse or two. I have a Bible app on my phone and receive a “verse of the day” every morning. It’s the first think I see when I open my smart phone. Today’s verse is Matthew 5:44 where Jesus teaches us about loving our enemies. Today I will love more; my friends and my enemies. I will do a better job of doing good to others, even those who may not understand. I will pray for those who are mean and try to help them with what they really need.
Sunday is so much more than a day off from work and school. Christians with family and friends assemble together on Sunday for Bible study, fellowship, and worship. At Harding Street we meet for worship together at 9:00 a.m. and then for Bible study at 10:00 a.m. and at 4:30 p.m. to sing and then for evening worship at 5:00 every Sunday. During the school year you can sleep in a bit longer and still get to worship by 9:00 a.m. on Sunday! Meeting with your fellow Christians and your family and friends will certainly be a blessing to your Sunday and your entire week. Every Sunday we sing together, no complications, just our voices together praising God. We pray together. Oh, how much our community, our nation, and our world need God’s providence. Just think of the suffering our friends are experiencing in El Paso and in Dayton and in other parts of the world even now. We give from the abundance of God’s financial blessings to us. We are so blessed. We remember the Lord’s sacrifice for us by eating the Lord’s Supper together. (How some churches meet without “breaking bread” together on the Lord’s Day, I just don’t understand.) We get to hear the gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ preached. God’s word is indeed “a lamp to our feet and a light to our path” (Psalm 119:102). We’re usually out by 11:15 on Sunday morning.
Brother Bane will be preaching on the morning. I have the privilege of preaching this month on Sunday evenings. Our new Sunday evening series is entitled “Living Life the Way Jesus Lived Life.” Lesson one reminds us of Jesus beginning and ending every day with FAITH. This coming Sunday evening (8.18) we’ll look at how Jesus lived every day with HOPE.
Proverbs 3:5-6 is a good theme for life. Change is necessary if we plan on living life the way Jesus lived life. Most people just don’t want to. Those who are willing to will begin to life the life Jesus’ lived.
