Welcome. Our fair city has seen quite a bit of publicity recently due to the Arkansas River reaching its highest levels in almost 100 years. Thankfully the river is now receding. To our family, friends, and neighbors who have suffered the loss of their property, livestock, and crops, we are praying for you.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling” – Psalm 46:1-3
We had a few (51) of our fellow Christians missing on Sunday. Our youth minister Brother Geoffrey Bane and several from our youth group along with the Chenault’s, the Chapman’s, and a few others were in Clinton finishing up a big weekend camping trip to Choctaw Park. Cindi and I went up on Saturday and had a great time of fellowship and summer fun. It is so good to be a member of such a wonderful congregation.
On Sunday we started a new Bible class in the Annex Building up and across the parking lot. This class is primarily for young adults ages 20 to 45 but we won’t be checking birth certificates. Our subject is Jesus’ Parables and we are trying a new teaching/learning format I call the “table format.” Plans are to discuss the subject at each table and answer a few relevant questions then I’ll bring the class together for the final 15 minutes to sum up what God would have us know. So far so good. I hope you will try out the class if you can.
Sunday evening is a very special time at Harding Street. We meet at 4:30 for a period of singing. At 5:00 we have another opportunity for worship, fellowship, and study. Yesterday we concluded our series “The Four All’s of the Great Commission – I will be with you ALWAYS.” Jesus has ALL authority. He gave the Great Commission to His disciples to go into ALL the world with the gospel, the good news of salvation in Christ Jesus. When those who hear the gospel obey it, we are to teach them to observe ALL that He has commanded. His promise remains. “Lo I am with you ALWAYS, even to the end of the age.”
We began a new three lesson series yesterday entitled “Christ is the Victory.” We are looking at the two fishing trips Peter, James, and John make in Luke 5 and the three differences in the trips. Yesterday we considered how Jesus’ PRESENCE in the boat made all the difference. The first trip without Jesus resulted in 0 fish. The second with Jesus resulted in so many fish that Simon had to call for backup. Do you have Jesus in your “boat?” His presence makes all the difference. This Sunday (9th) we will look at the second difference; Jesus’ PLAN.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL @ HARDING STREET is on the horizon scheduled for June 16-19; Sunday morning at 10:15 a.m. and then Sunday through Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. each evening. “OUR BIG GOD” is our theme. If you can help with this year’s VBS, please talk to Geoffrey. VBS is always one of the highlights of the year at Harding Street. Adults: We will have a session for you too. Come and see. You’ll be so glad you did.
