Hello and welcome! We had a grand Lord’s Day last Sunday with 210 present for worship and fellowship. God is blessing us. I just love Sunday’s. It was so good to hear so much happiness and see so many smiling faces. Sadly though, many Christians just “go to church.” They can’t seem to find any real joy and meaning in meeting with their fellow Christians. Others start out well enough, but quit before long. Some people won’t even try. The Bible tells us that King David was a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22). He wrote, “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go into the house of the Lord’” (Psalm 122:1). What about you and me? Have we found joy in meeting with our fellow Christians for Bible study, worship, and fellowship? What about Sunday evening and Wednesday evening? What about other events and activities when we meet? Are we glad?
In in the Bible the church of Christ met on the first day of the week (Acts 20:7) and continued in the apostles doctrine (Acts 2:42). In (Hebrews 10:23-25) we find that; God commands His church to meet regularly. Meeting together keeps us spiritually healthy, strong, and encouraged. We honor God when we meet together for worship, fellowship, and Bible study.
It is true. Sunday mornings can be rushed and stressful. It is also true that Sunday’s can be planned and peaceful. The difference I believe is in our preparation. When we prepare for the day ahead, we find that the Lord’s Day and any other day for that matter can be a blessing to us and to God. I remember my mother preparing our family for worship. Our preparation began on Saturday evening before bedtime. She came into our room and had us lay out the clothes we were going to wear to church the next day. She had us place our personal Bibles next to our clothes. On Sunday morning she allowed us to sleep in later than usual. This allowed her time to prepare breakfast for our family and ready herself for worship in peace before 3 boys and an older sister…well let’s say, made life a little more complicated. Children need breakfast in order to learn and grow. I remember my mom, dressed already and my dad sitting in his chair reading as I walked into the kitchen to eat breakfast on Sunday morning. After breakfast we would get dressed and after a motherly inspection leave the house for Bible class and worship. Cindi and I chose to follow a similar Sunday morning pattern for our family. To this day before retiring on Saturday night I lay out the suit, shirt, and tie I’m going to wear and make sure my shoes are clean and ready. I have found that my children, now grown are following a similar pattern for their family.
How about you and your family? Create your own pattern of preparation and see if your Sunday mornings can be a more joyful experience for you and yours. Thank you for the privilege of being your minister and friend.
We will conclude our Sunday morning series entitled “When God Asks a Question – What Will Your Answer Be” or “God’s Questions – Man’s Answers” with the final question from God to Adam; “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?” How many times have we asked this question of ourselves and others; What have I done? or What have you done? Once the action is taken, there is no going back. Once the word is spoken, there is no taking it back. Just one moment, just one word, just one time, just one move, just one decision can change the entire world. Actually, this is exactly what happened. Eve, in one moment made one decision that forever changed the entire world. And thank the Lord, so did Jesus.
