The future can be scary. I tend to get anxious when it comes to long-term commitments. I was scared to get my ears pierced, I was scared to cut my hair short, and I was absolutely terrified to pick the university I was going to attend. Now obviously the first two aren’t super extravagant choices to make, but the last one put me on edge for months. Senior year was dwindling down and I was stuck between two universities. As the deadline approached, I eventually made my decision. With that decision out of the way, I was thrown into the circus of housing situations, meal plans, and classes. So many choices to make, but I knew that whatever I decided on it would work out. I am only in my second sesmter, but so far it has.
In Matthew 6:33, we are instructed to not worry about worldly things because if we seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness “all these things shall be added unto you”. What an incredible promise. It is so easy to get mixed up in the world around us. It is so easy to forget the promises and plan that God has set out before us. Proverbs 16:3 tells us that if we commit to the Lord in whatever we do, he will establish and guide our paths. If that isn’t the assurance us Christians need then I don’t know what is. If we trust in the Lord and have hope in him, we will be blessed, as told to us in Jeremiah 17:7. The next verse in that chapter compares us to a tree growing by water, we will “spread our roots” and our “leaves shall be green.” We will grow and be strong with the Lord as we grow and become strong for him.
“Do not be anxious about anything..and the peace of God…will guard your hearts and your minds in Jesus Christ.” Philippians 4:6-7
